GSK Pakistan invested Rs 74million and pioneering the new packaging technology.

For a very long time, GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) Pakistan's production department was working day and night to find out a substitute packaging solution for there best selling medicine in antibiotics category, "Augmentin". Before this innovation in the packaging of Augmentin, it was available in a glass bottle which was costing the company millions of rupees every year. The motive behind developing the new technology was to reduce the cost of doing business because of inflation causing increase in raw material prices and high regulations imposed by DRAP (Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan) upon increasing the prices of life-saving drug, GSK was finding it hard to keep up the quality and profitability at the same time. Considering the decrease in quality to have margins was not an option for GSK. For many years, GSK wanted to introduce Augmentin in blister packaging.
